Closed Captions Display Incorrectly (SRT)

When I reopen FCPX after a break, the captions do not display correctly (see screen grab below).

(I hasten to explain that the caption refers to sheep-herding)! The caption displayed on the viewer is totally different to the one under the playhead in the timeline at that point, although the caption displayed does exist elsewhere on that timeline.

The only way I have found to get the captions to display correctly is to disable and then re-enable the captions ROLE in the Timeline Index.

I have reported it to Apple, and there's been an update since, but unfortunately it still happens.

FCPX 10.6.4 on Monterey 12.5.1.

Ditching prefs makes no difference.

This is a pain in the neck, and I wondered whether anyone else is experiencing it?

Thanks in advance.

With apologies to spherico - I didn't see your reply until just now. I don't usually ignore replies - sorry.

The problem got worse, and I noticed that Disk Utility found some errors on the Mac HD which it could not fix, so I tried reinstalling the OS via Recovery mode, and that didn't fix anything, so I erased the hard drive and did a clean installation.

Then I used Migration Assistant to bring back my Settings but not Applications etc.

So far, I've been running Final Cut for some hours, and the problem has not reappeared. I can't point to the actual cause of the issue, but at least it appears to have gone.
