Swipe left from right bezel in iBooks opens Safari...

I had this problem when reading books in iBooks where swiping from right to left sometimes opens Safari in a floating window that is almost impossible to get rid of. Is there any way to disable this "feature" in iBooks rather than disable the multitasking features for the entire iPadOS?

Nope, "switching it off and on again" had zero effect. The chasm security hole in webkit meant I was pestered to death to install iPadOS 15.6.1 and that has removed the only way I had to disable the "feature" namely, Safari popping up taking up a third of the screen whilst reading a book, in iBooks and turning the page by using my right thumb. I'm holding the iPad in my right hand. I noticed that clicking on the ellipsis brought up a pop-out set of icons and one of them was to fill the screen with the Safari pop-up. Going to the running applications view let me swipe Safari away and amazingly, swiping from the right bezel inwards turns the page and doesn't open Safari - happy days! 🥳 Yesssssssssssssss! it survived a reboot, so we're golden.

Hi landscape_artist,

What you described is not normal behavior. That said, can you tell us if you are running a beta version of iPadOS on your device? Keep in mind that any software version that start with a 16 is indicative of beta software.

If you’re unsure where to locate the software version, check out the link below.

Also, have you tried restarting your iPad to see if that positively impacts the issue you’re experiencing? If not, please try that step and let us know how it goes.

While a restart can seem unimportant, it can actually resolve many minor issues with the device.

Cheers!

Yeah, I know what multitasking is and there's nothing I can do about Apple's implementation of the "feature" - I have found a solution that prevents Safari from opening up when I'm using the iPad with one hand - disabilities, despite, in my case, being temporary, cause lots of hassle when a system is designed for people with two hands (and for disabled, the assumption appears to be the iPad is in some form of holder)
