Blocked Contact Still Comes to Inbox

I have an older iPhone (7) so maybe that's the problem, but I blocked a contact- both their email addresses - yet their emails keep coming through to my Inbox with an ironically frustrating alert in the header, something like: This message is from a blocked contact.

I keep asking myself: if it's a blocked contact what's it doing in my Inbox? I've configured blocked contacts to go directly to Trash. But I have no answer for me. So I thought I'd ask all of you ;-)
