Sound preferences no longer show individual choices for actions

I no longer see choices of specific sounds for actions on the Mac running Catalina 10.15.7 for instance I used to see options for the sent mail sound, and in fact the sent mail swoosh sound no longer plays when I send mail. What has changed?? I never deleted any files or knowingly changed anything of this sort.
