Mail app Sounds

The speakers on my MacBook Air running Ventura 13.0 work just fine with other apps/uses; however, there are no sounds generated by the Mail app even though they are selected. Any help?

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.12

Hi stellans,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're not hearing any notification sounds for Mail. This article has some steps that may help: Manage notifications from Mail on Mac .

"New message notifications from Mail appear in the top-right corner of the screen, where you can reply to a message, mark a message as read, or delete a message. You have the option to receive these notifications from only certain mailboxes. You can also change how notifications appear or turn them off altogether.

Respond to new message notifications

  • On your Mac, move the pointer over the event notification, then do any of the following:
    • Dismiss the notification: Click the Close button .
    • Reply to a message: Click Options, then click Reply.
    • Mark a message as read: Click Options, then click “Mark as read.”
    • Delete a message: Click Options, then click Delete.
    • See more details: Click the notification to open the message in Mail, or click the arrow  to see more details.
    • Mute notifications from Mail: Click the arrow , click the More button , then choose an option.

Change new message notifications

  1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, choose Mail > Settings, then click General.
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change new message sound: Click the “New message sound” pop-up menu, then choose a sound.
    • Change the mailbox for new message notifications: Click the “New message notifications” pop-up menu, then choose a mailbox.

Change or turn off all notifications from Mail

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Notifications in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Go to Application Notifications on the right, click Mail, then do any of the following:
    • Change notifications: Set options, such as the style of notifications, where to show them, and more. For more information about the options, click the Help button  in the bottom-right corner.
    • Turn off all notifications from Mail: Turn Allow Notifications off.

Note: To display notifications from Mail when a Focus is on, you must allow the notifications to appear. See Set up a Focus."

Based on the steps above, make sure notifications aren't turned off for mail, or that Focus is not preventing them from coming through. You may also want to change the new message sound to something different to see if the issue persists.

We hope this helps.

Take care.

Thank you. When I tried this earlier, they told me I need to bring my MacBook Air in for repair. Since the closest available is 45 miles away and I can't be that long from home (90 year old mother lives here too), it's really more an annoyance than a OMG MUST FIX problem. I was hoping someone else might have had the same weird thing happen and how they might have fixed it. But I do appreciate the 2 replies I've received.
