I'm trying to reconnect my personal Gmail account for email, calendar, so on.
When I try to sign into my Gmail account it brings up a box to sign on in my browser, which only has a loading symbol in it, and won't go passed that point. I'm signed in on Gmail in my safari browser

Yes— change your default browser to Safari in an effort to move forward w/ your gmail .
After you have it set up you can change the default browser back to your preferred.
