Importing photos from iPhone to Mac

I'm trying to import 30,000 pictures from iPhone to my Mac. I selected Import all, but it seemed to pick photos at random and stopped at around 4,000. I want my photos somewhere other than the cloud alone and thought putting them on my computer would be a good idea. Any idea what is going on? Thank you for any help!
