Hi Camdenw2599,
Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.
Resetting the SMC on a Mac with Apple silicon only involves a restart but wouldn't be appropriate for this issue.
- Have you tried a different cable or port yet?
- Do you use a hub? If so, try a direct connection to isolate the issue further.
You can also test the issue in a new user account to further isolate the issue to system-wide and your user. Here's how: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.
"Add a user
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Preferences, then click Users & Groups
. - If the lock at the bottom left is locked
, click it to unlock the preference pane. - Click the Add button
below the list of users. - Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
- Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
- Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
- Click Create User."
If the issue occurs in the new user, try contacting the manufacturer of the monitor. It's possible there is a firmware update available.
If it doesn't happen in the new user, please visit Apple Support.
Have a fantastic day!
