iCloud/Apple ID causing lags in game?

Here and there I enjoy playing the online game heroes of the storm, on my Macbook Pro connected to a Studio Display.

The game generally runs very smoothly, but something ridiculous has been bothering me for a long time now. I checked online and couldn't find any info regarding this issue:

Every time my iPhone or iPad receives a message/notification of any kind, the game on my MBP becomes very stuttery and basically unplayable, it's very frustrating. This usually lasts for more or less the duration of the screen being lit up on other device.

What I usually do is turn off Wifi on the devices that are not being used. This sometimes seems to immediately make the game less stuttery, but not always. Then I might also disable bluetooth, which I'm not sure if it does anything. However, even with Wifi and Bluetooth turned off on my iPhone and iPad, the game STILL stutters if I get anything on these devices. Even if I'm just touching the screen to check time. It's driving me nuts.

I think I've noticed this issue since the introduction of sidecar and other Apple-ID based functions such as the copy-paste function across devices. So the only thing I can imagine interfering with the game or the Wifi connections of the MBP, is iCloud running certain things in the background whenever the iPhone/iPad is being activated in any way (touching screen, lock button, notifications).

I have a fast and stable Wifi connection and a macbook pro m1 max (which is more than capable to play the game), so that can't be the issue.

I'd rather not completely turn off all my other devices whenever I wanna play a game, or even having to turn off wifi, bluetooth etc every time.

So if anyone has suggestions on what else I could try to solve this, would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hi Grofboi,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

The issue with your game becoming slower when you receive a message on iPhone or iPad could be linked to interference nearby. Check for sources that could affect your performance.

These general steps can help achieve a cleaner, stronger wireless signal:
• Bring your Wi-Fi device closer to your Wi-Fi router. Bring the Bluetooth devices that are connecting to each other closer together.
• Avoid using your wireless devices near common sources of interference, such as power cables, microwave ovens, fluorescent lights, wireless video cameras, and cordless phones.
• Reduce the number of active devices that use the same wireless frequency band. Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices use the 2.4 GHz band, but many Wi-Fi devices can use the 5 GHz band instead. If your Wi-Fi router supports both bands, it might help to connect more of your Wi-Fi devices to the 5GHz band. Some dual-band routers manage this for you automatically.
• Configure your Wi-Fi router to use a different Wi-Fi channel, or have it scan for the channel with the least interference. Most routers perform this scan automatically on startup or when reset.

Find these and more in Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference.

Our your Mac in safe mode and check for this behavior. Safe mode limits startup items that run while running a health check on your drive.

Regards.
