Airtag Location Updates

I am expecting to see the real time location of the airtag when I am away from it but it only updates the location when only my device get near to it.

For example, I leave the house at 7AM, it says last location at 7AM. I have family members at home with current apple mobile devices, iPads and watche bluetooth enabled etc but the location only updates when I get home at 5PM from my device they even carry the airtag around and it won’t respond to anything else.

How can I make this airtag to update it's location even though I am not near it.
