Touch ID stopped working

My Touch ID stopped working after I updated to OS 12.5.1. The automatic login is off, but it is greyed out so I can't make changes to it when I unlock the system preferences. All of the Touch ID system preferences are also greyed out so I am unable to add or delete fingerprints, or make other changes.

hmmm...have you rebooted more than once since your "updated to OS 12.5.1." (?)

try a Safeboot and compare your results

Yes, I have tried to reboot and safeboot. When I do that, the Touch ID is no longer greyed out until I try to make a change. As soon as I try to change anything, I get the message "Touch ID not available" and everything is greyed out again. The Touch ID was working before the most recent OS update. I have an Apple silicone Mac Studio. Is anyone else having this issue? I was hoping there would be an update to fix it if it was a common issue.
