iPad Air 4 damaged because of the apple pencil

My apple pencil gen 2 has a small dot on its side and also my iPad air 4 has a deep scratch where that dot touches the iPad. It's really frustrating to see such a thing since both devices are quite expensive. Please help me with this problem.

Thank you!!!

Hi shamod_dilshan,

You may try following the steps from How to clean your Apple products to ensure there is no debris that has become attached to the Apple Pencil which may have caused this behavior:

To clean your Apple Pencil, use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. With the damp cloth, wipe your Apple Pencil from the tip end—but not the tip itself—toward the other end of your Apple Pencil. Don’t allow moisture to get inside the seam between the tip and the body of your Apple Pencil.

If the surface of the iPad does not respond to the cleaning guidelines from that article and is indeed scratched, this would be considered cosmetic damage and would not be addressable under warranty or paid service. Learn more at Your Hardware Warranty under section "WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY?"

Regards.

What you illustrate is localised surface wear of the anodised finish of the iPad. Any abrasive dust or grit that is present when docking the Pencil can abrade the anodised finish of the iPad.

Basic material science tells us that a hard/abrasive material (such as grit) will embed itself in the surface of the softer material (in this case, the body of the Pencil) - and this embedded material can abrade the surface of the harder material (the anodised coating) as the Pencil slides on/off of the iPad charging pad.

Keeping these surfaces clean and dust free can reduce the possibility of cosmetic surface damage.
