Macintosh HD - ISSUES - UNMOUNTED, SNAPSHOT, CAPACITY LIES!
Hello. Needing some assistance.
I have a late '13 rMBP15. I allocated 40gb to Bootcamp not realizing a chunk would basically disappear. Now, I need more space on that partition.
Trying to go this route: create partition on Mac HD, then go to Bootcamp windows and reclaim it.
Few things are causing me a headache:
- About's STORAGE tab says I have 226gb available. DISK UTILITY says 162gb available.
- I've deleted trash and unlinked OneDrive freeing up close to 70gb which might be the discrepancy. But why is it not showing in DISK UTILITY?
- DISK UTILITY shows my main Macintosh HD unmounted. Never seen this before. Also there's a snapshot file and a "Macintosh HD - Data" folder that I don't remember seeing before.
- When I tried Recovery Mode to Mount the Macintosh HD, it mounts but when I boot into MacOS it's unmounted again and I can't mount it while in MacOS
- When I try to partition, it says "Minimum size of CONTAINER" needs to be 459gb (basically the remaining balance of the HD without the BOOTCAMP PARTITION) - but supposedly I have 162gb or 226gb available.
- Also never noticed before there are 5 volumes shared in the 459gb... don't remember that before..
Again, trying to increase size of Bootcamp Partition; 20gb or so should do it.
I've backed up to Time Machine yesterday -- although, when unmounting my 8TB external yesterday, I ejected but seemed I pulled the USB from the laptop a bit before it was complete and I got a notification saying "no ejected properly" even though I waited 5-10 seconds. Could this have created a corrupt snapshot or something?
I tried restoring from Time Machine in Recovery Mode but it said I need to reinstall MacOS then use some sort of (restore) Assistant or something.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks.
