Time machine issue

My time machine drive crashed and had to be wiped, and when it was reformatted and setup for time machine again, it doesn't show time machine files like it did before. It just shows one file.

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

Creating a Time Machine Drive:

Format this correctly: Using Disk Utility, erase the external drive in full. You will need to format this with APFS. Try this once more, once formatted.

"Hello I've formatted the drive, and it's process of backing up my machine but seems stuck, or just going real slow, any ideas? It's moved to 1.53 since I left my house this morning, like I said moving just real slow."

Thank you for the screenshot.

5TB TMB will Take a Few:

All is operating as expected. Don't worry about a thing. With more that 5TB, it is going to take a long time, indeed. So, you will just have to wait it out.

"Hello thanks response but when I tried to reformat drive don't see that option, I see these options, and originally I choose OS X extended with Journaled with encryption I think which might be issue. So which option do I choose just regular journaled?"

Thank you for the screenshot.

APFS is for macOS10.13 and Later:

Seeing now that you posted this in the El Capitan forums --that is why you are not seeing APFS. That being said, OS X Extended (Journalized) will work just fine.

Based on Personal Experience...

Numerous Formatting Consumes Time:

Way back when, my 5TB took me 30 days to format on my 2010 MBP. Why 30 days? Not knowing any better, I let it format 10 times over, being first shocked of security issues. Nowadays, it still takes a while for 5TB, but I'm no so certain on formatting it 10 times over on a 2022MBP.

One of those “Go Figure” kinda ordeals! It happens to the best of us. So, …

Use “First Aid” Button, the Reformat:

run First Aid, prior to this, being that you may now having a failing drive. If all is fine, erase the drive(partitions and all), and then format it once more. I would also consider getting a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for avoidance of things like this. Get one on Amazon or at a retailer.
