What player will work with the iMac? It is a 2021 machine. I also have a 2020 MacBook Air with Retina.
What machine could they both use?
I am hearing that the Apple CD/DVD player will not work with them.

the apple USB superdrive will work just fine with both of those Macs. most of the time, when you see issues with it not working, it's because the user is using a hub or dock to connect it to their Mac. the superdrive needs to be connected directly to the Mac. and with a Mac that only has an USB-C input, you need to use an USB-C to USB Adapter to connect it directly to the Mac. and with aftermarket optical drives, it's hit or miss as to wether it will or will not work connected through a hub or dock.

My dad uses the Apple cd/DVD player with his 24in 2021 iMac. Works perfectly fine
I just have a generic USB-C one I got from Amazon. It works fine.
