how do I view all file thumbnails (aka icons) within all subfolders at once
used to be straight forward...
macos High Sierra, (CMD+A, CMD+right arrow) then scroll sideways through all items

Due to changes in the Monterey Finder, the old gallery file listing for a selected folder is gone, and you will need to double-click the folder to see a linear array of its file contents. If that is all folders, you must repeat the double-click to drill down into the desired sub-folder contents. It is a good to have the Finder View menu > Show Path Bar enabled before you do this.
You might waste less time using the list (⌘+2) or column (⌘+3) views to see the contents of a folder.
