Alternating row colors for part of a table in Numbers

I'd like to have alternating row colors for only part of a table. Not the whole table. Like it is in the photo which I did by hand. How do I go about this? It is easy in Excel but I'm not buying it for just one feature.

Thank you.

Elias

Only by hand.

Assuming there are no other style changes in those cells (not bold, italics, thick borders, or other styles applied already),

  1. Change the background colors in the first two cells (A4 and A5 in your screenshot)
  2. Select those two cells
  3. Copy Style (found in the Format menu)
  4. Select all the other cells where you want the alternating color.
  5. Paste Style
  6. Then change A3 and the row near the bottom.

If you have other styles applied already, another way is to select every other row (4, 6, 8, etc), set the color, do the same for the other rows (5, 7, 9, etc), then select the rightmost column and set the color back to "none".

Your table is very "Excel like." If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend looking into how to do things "the Numbers way." In Numbers, unlike in Excel, you can have easily have multiple tables on the same sheet. And you can take advantage of Header Rows, Footer Rows, and Header Columns. Each table can have its individual styling.

For excellent examples see the templates at File > New in your menu.

Once you do things "the Numbers way" you probably will not even think about trying to have alternating row colors for just part of a table.
