Searching this forum, it seems some people say they can open Canon .CR3 files in preview on Monterey. Others say they can't.
Can anyone explain why some can and some can't? Is there an update to the Apple RAW function?
I have apps that can do it. It's just WAY faster using the OS. (And even FASTER if they'd bring back carousal :) )

Also, will Monterey ever have the R7 enabled? It's only been out about 5 months. The update on your link predates the release. If so, how do I update the OS RAW files without updating the entire OS?

Unless they shoot JPGs or convert them to DNG, they can't.

To see them in Preview they would have to be converted. Adobe DNG Converter would be one option.

Too bad Finder doesn't show the thumbnail. Being able to quickly sort files at the finder level is a tremendous time saver.
Maybe some people have used 3rd party apps to read the thumbnail, not the file. Dunno.
There is an embedded JPEG preview in the .CR3 software. Some programs can show this preview.

Because what matters is not the .CR3 filetype, but the actual *camera* that produced the file. You need to wait until your camera is supported, the next batch will probably be in Ventura.
You might find XnView MP useful.
Send Apple feedback. I think that the Finder depends on the OS support for the RAW files. Since that is becoming more spotty or delayed, they should fall back to the embedded preview.
