Okay so please in your reply don't proceed tell me that read receipts don't work with sms because I have green bubbles with "read" written underneath. What is this about. I know for a fact that they have an iPhone and a MacBook. It will send blue but before it goes all the way through will turn green but will show up a blue on my iMac

iMessage (Blue) requires internet (Either over WiFi or Cellular Service) as it is sent over internet protocol. Needs Activation on your device.
SMS (Green) does not require any internet it is sent over cellular voice protocol. Needs to be enabled by your Carrier for the SIM used by you.
Even after text message forwarding to Mac, Blue will remain Blue and Green will remain as Green.
If you are seeing blue then that message may be getting forwarded from another iPhone. Please undertand that the same message can be sent to multiple iPhones and Multiple iPhones can forwards messages to a single Mac.

SMS Read receipts will depend on three things.
As far as green bubbles having "Read" underneath it, I believe that this is a glitch. It sometimes happens to me when I get a new phone, restart my phone, or restore my phone from a backup. Regarding your blue bubbles turning green, this may be due to carrier availability in your area. To ensure this doesn't happen, go to Settings->Messages->Send as SMS. Turn that off. Remember, though, that this will mean that whenever you do not have a data connection, your iMessage will not send.
I’m a bit confused. I’m sending a message in iPhone that starts blue but before it fully sends it’ll turn green. However same message will appear blue on Mac. Green on phone blue on mac. Same message. Can this suggest my messages are being filtered through another device. Does this suggest foul play. As in being hacked of sorts.
I’m sorry, all the green messages do have “read”?
