Can someone help me configure my devices to not send read receipts?

I've turned off Send Read Receipts on my phone and tablet but devices continue sending read messages to others. I also use my computer to access messages, but don't see how to manage Send Read Receipts for the desktop app. Suggestions?

iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 16

Send read receipts in Messages on Mac

You can send read receipts for all conversations or for just one conversation. If you turn on read receipts for all conversations, you can still turn them off for a single conversation—and vice versa.

Send read receipts for one conversation

  1. In the Messages app  on your Mac, select a conversation.
  2. Click the Details button  in the top-right corner, then select Send Read Receipts.

Send read receipts for all conversations

  1. In the Messages app  on your Mac, choose Messages > Settings, then click iMessage.
  2. Click Settings, then select “Send read receipts.”

Thanks, that was the first thing I tried after verifying that Send Read Receipts was off. I pinged Apple support from their website. Apple support chat was quick and easy to access an Advisor. Unfortunately they could not resolve the issue, but I have a senior advisor call in the morning. I’m impressed and hopeful.
