eSIM and travelling for iphone 14

Hi there,

So with esim, will I be able to use the new iPhone 14 while travelling or do i have to pay crazy prices for roaming?

Up until now all I had to do was turn roaming on and that was it. I was able to use unlimited data, the same way I do in the US....the speeds are just capped so I was paying for an international data plan to just have data in full speed.

Will I be able to do the same next time I go on vacation? I am not really interested in using minutes to talk on the phone cause when I am on vacation I communicate with text messages, FaceTime and other apps that use VoIP so I only use data.

Thanks

If you cannot get a local eSim in the country to which you are traveling, you would be paying your home carrier if you used the cellular network. If your carrier didn't charge you for roaming before, however, they probably won't now. Contact your carrier for further details.

You would still be able to use WiFi.

Thanks for reply...so I go to Greece twice a year and I do not have to do anything...my phone just works and I do not incur any roaming charges

All I do is pay T-mobile $50 to have 15GB of full speed data when I am not on wifi, which is pretty often when you are on vacation.

So if I buy an iphone 14 and go to Greece next month will the situation be the same as described above? Trying to find a store to activate another sim is not what one wants to do when they are on vacation especially when you go to place that might not have one...like a small island

I also called my carrier and they were not that helpful cause Apple obviously decides unilaterally about these things and leaves everyone else hanging.

The eSim is already active in your phone. It will function just like a physical SIM. So, there should be no difference.

The people who are going to have problems are the ones who want to switch SIMs when they travel. It doesn't sound as if you need to do that.
