GMAIL AUTHENTICATION ISSUES ON MacBook Air

I'm trying to add my gmail account to my MacBook Air mail app. Unfortunately, every time I try to add it, I'm required to "Authenticate" it with Google Internet accounts. Every time I press the "Open Browser" button, it just spools and times out. I've tried this 30 times and no success. Very frustrating. Can anyone assist?

The following Discussion suggests you need to be using Safari as your default browser for that Google authentication to work: Can't add google account to Monterey - Apple Community.

Try that.

To change your default browser, read Change the default web browser or email app on your Mac - Apple Support.
