Imac Noisy Fan

Hi all,

I bought my new Imac in Dec 2021. Its an M1 chip. Used it heavily (word processing, not gaming) until April then it's largely had a rest til now (Sept 2022). Now I've gone back to use it again to do some revisions and the fan has been randomly coming on very noisily. I looked up what to do and it said restart. Fair enough, I don't do that a lot, but even after having restarted it is still coming on sometimes and being really noisy. I'm only reading PDF files and doing a bit of typing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Go to Applications > Utilities and open Activity Monitor

select the CPU tab and check to see if High CPU Load corresponds with the elevated fan speed

if not, select the Disk tab and check to see if Disk activity corresponds with the elevated fan speed
