Folder on desktop won't move to new location, only copies

My iMac died recently, and I had to fix it and upgrade to Monterey. Everything had to be backed up onto an external HD, wiped then reformatted.

I'm trying now slowly to put things back into place.

I have one folder on my desktop with some fonts in it. It will not let me move it to another location - instead it copies it every time I try to do so.

Any idea how I can move this stubborn folder and not have it sitting on my desktop forever?

Thank you.

Is that folder locked? Select it, press Command-I and see if the box for "locked" is checked.

Note: if you are dragging a file or folder to a different drive or volume, it will be copied instead of moved. That is how it has always been.

if you copied it to a new location, why not delete the folder on the Desktop if you are done with it...(?)
