I can’t log in at WhatsApp web anymore since 15.7 iPadOS. It says that I need to update to safari 11

How I upgrade safari if I just upgraded to 15.7 iPadOS today. I really use WhatsApp web because you never release it as an app….

iPad Pro, iPadOS 15

How can it be an App developer problem , when the App was working fine before an update, come on Apple get your act together and sort it out, we have paid good money for our devices , and we expect you to use proper diligence before releasing something that causes problems for your “ customers/ clients”

What are you talking about? As far as I know, Safari was created and is developed by Apple! So what third-party vendor are you thinking about? Simply, after the latest iOS update, WhatsApp web doesn't work with Safari which means that Apple update has created above problem!!

The app you are accessing here is a substantial and complex app created and maintained by Meta, code which deliberately obfuscates itself, and code that is using Safari for the rendering. Or not using, in this case.

It would appear that something within that stew of Meta code has malfunctioned.

Contact Meta for assistance with Meta products and services.

Even if this is a Safari problem, then Meta is still in the best position to address this with Apple, as Meta has access to the website code that causes this report.

I am addressing the question ushnishroy asked.

Correct.

The third party vendor that developed "Whats App". It was neither created nor developed by Apple.

Raru80, why don't you fix it?

Not sure if you still have this problem.

Two solutions:

Install either Firefox or Chrome in addition to Safari and follow the normal process

or:

When you do it in Safari and get this irritating message about having to update to Safari 11 click on the Aa-‘icon’ on the address bar (of Safari) and select: Choose mobile website. :-)

Not sure what Apple charged in the default settings or rather, why they did so, but ‘problem’ solved.

Hmmm, I replied before, but seems to have been ‘deleted’.

The solution is simple:

on the WA webpage, so where you receive the error, click/tick on the Aa ‘icon’ left in the address bar (so where you type in the site name),

then choose ‘Ask for mobile webpage

and see, you get the QR-code to link/connect your phone again.

Not sure what (default) settings Apple changed in the updated Safari/ /15.7 OS, nor why they don’t share this ‘solution’, nor why they seem to even hide/remove it.

Your earlier reply is still here; scroll up a little bit.

Apple changed nothing. It's the "WhatsApp Web" site that is defective. From what you describe, it's limited to their desktop version of that site — the only one whose page source I examined:

Examining the page source for "WhatsApp Web" yields the following supported browsers:

Chrome
Firefox
Microsoft Edge
Opera

That is all.

Apple cannot fix Meta's website any more than anyone else can.

Hi John,

This morning, even after several times refreshing the page, my reply was or seemed not to be there anymore, indeed now it is there again, so apologies for that.

And as stated in Safari it still works, but you have to click the Aa ‘icon’ left and ask for the mobile website.

And sorry, but, as you can read, also in other fora, this issue coincided and only appeared after updating to OS 15.7.

However I (have to trust and) respect a level 10 contributor, but from experience: this kind of coincidence is quite unlikely to happen.

The so-called "browser check" Meta performs is totally unnecessary and a bad idea that lacks any technical justification.

Lots of companies want to compel people into using their dedicated app, presumably for tracking purposes and to deliver targeted advertising – data gathering that Apple intentionally makes difficult for them to do with Safari.

Perhaps Meta doesn't like that because it's contrary to their business model; of course that's speculation on my part, but it seems they are either unwilling or incapable of removing that ill-advised "browser check".

In any event it's nothing Apple can fix. Meta has to do that.
