Apple's Google search about this is great at explaining what you can customize but doesn't say how to do it... I updated to iOS 16 this afternoon and 5 hours later I still have no idea what has actually changed. All I have noticed so far is that the time display on the lock screen is in a gigantic font! VERY annoying... how do I put the font back to normal? Luckily I did a back-up before installing this!
tap/hold on the Lock Screen itself. Sort of like how you tap/hold on an app icon to get the pop up menu.
So on your Home Screen, swipe down from the very top to show the Lock Screen..
Then tap/hold on a blank part of the Lock Screen.
It should pop back kinda similar to the App Switcher..
Or if you have an Apple Watch, it's very similar to how you can quickly change faces by tap/hold, then swipe right/left.

to customize the Lock Screen.. go to the Lock Screen and tap/hold. it should pop back and then you swipe left, hit the + sign and go from there.
I think the widgets are pretty limited, but I've been able to piece it together

Yes, I know how to use Google. That's how I found this information. A very useful trick with Google is learning how to restrict the search to a particular domain. Use "site:" (without the quotes) followed by the domain you want to search. In this case:
site:apple.com customize Lock Screen iOS 16
Going to the Support link at the top of every page of the forums is also a good place to start. Select iPhone from the options and go to the manual.

It's a just a page from the manual. I usually prefer to link to the standalone articles as I prefer their formatting but, whatever gets the job done.
