Are you using ExpressVpn? If so open the app, choose settings. Choose Network Protection. Turn "block internet access when unable to reconnect to vpn" off.
this solved the issue for my wife’s iPhone 13 and for my 14 pro
Same issue. No VPN use. And, all was fine, even with iOS 16 until the last patch, 16.1.2 and now my 2019 GTI will not connect. I can use the bluetooth to stream songs or make calls, but plugged in it's a charger for the phone only. I have "forgotten car" on the phone side; deleted phone on car side; tried re-adding on both, and still nothing. I used it Maps and Waze all the time. Now I'm leaning the phone against the dashboard to have Maps available to see...booo....Apple please fix so it connects to my car again!
I tried all of this, and was not successful. I finally reset my car computer to its original settings and voila! It started working again. I have a 2017 Honda Civic I’m guessing it may have been a combination of one or both, but more likely the reset of the car computer. Try this if nothing else works.
Try following the advice here and also resetting your vehicle’s system computer. I updated to 16.1.2 and none of the suggestions worked. Out of desperation, I restored my system computer to its default settings, and everything worked again right away.
Hello can someone please help me! Today my plugged my iPhone to my car. It said accessory not supported but it was able to charger my phone. Then I tired different apple cables and nothing worked. My VPN is off and it still doesn’t work. Idk what else to do.
I get the “accessory not supported” error too. I discovered if I unlock my phone and replug it, it usually works as expected. Sometimes I have to open Music for the car to recognize it. I’m not sure what causes this as it doesn’t happen all the time. I suspect it is an app I have used.

Check for fuzz in the Lightning port, and replace the Lightning cable, as a test.
Hello all,
I have an ‘18 F150 and an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Wireless CarPlay is not an option in this year model. I have Screen Time turned off all together so there is no allowing CarPlay. I do not have a VPN on my phone to even turn on/off. USB charges the device but no CarPlay shows up. Any advice or further help in appreciated.
Turning off my VPN connection also resolved the issue. Good catch.
Same for me. Updated to iOS 16. Apple CarPlay stopped connect. Read lots of cures but tunes out it was the VPN. Apple…please fix this! Allow CarPlay to work with active VPN.
Good call mate! Even says “may affect” car play, etc.. when turned on so now we know. Just don’t understand why the car play screen is totally blank. Hopefully fix comes soon.
Thank you but didn't work...!!! I wonder if I full reset the phone would help!
Same problem here on iPhone 12 Pro.
im having the same problem with two cars. Full device restore did. It help
It did not help doing the full restores
