The install fails every time after updating my iPhone 12 Pro Max to iOS 16 and Mac OS to 12.6. Any thoughts? The iPhone seems to connect without difficulty. However, this annoying message pops up EVERY TIME I connect my phone.

Xcode should now be available in the Apple App Store. I know it used to be through a developer account, but it seems to be available to anyone now. It's been so long since I installed it that I don't remember how I did the initial install, but I do update it now through the App Store.
One odd thing about Xcode, you need to install and actually run it to get everything installed. It adds files and extensions the first time it's run after an install or update.
I’m not running Xcode at all. I’ll see what happens next week when I work with Apple on it.
They asked me that same question. I told them this was set up as a new Mac. I only copied data from the old one and not much at that as most of my data resides in iCloud Drive.
XCode is a bit of a hog
With Catalina 10.5.7, the answer proposed doesn't work. I downloaded the correct version of Xcode, launched it : il installed something. But, after quitting Xcode, the problem remains.
Interestingly enough, I installed iOS 16.0.3 yesterday and the problem came back. Something is seriously half baked with one of the OS's.
After installation of iOS 16.0.3 today, no effect for me… Always the same window which want I install a software that never accept to be installed. And Ventura is not for my old iMac !
I had uninstalled it because I don't use it these days and didn't want the 12GB storage overhead. It was still working after the uninstall with 16.0.2.
Instead of pressing the "Restore iPhone" button next to the "Check for Update" button, have you tried scrolling down and using the "Restore Backup" button below "Back Up Now"? Assuming you have a previous backup to use - worked for me.
Just connected my 14 Pro and when asked to download new software, I did and it installed without incident. Maybe Apple do listen sometimes?
