iOS 16 CarPlay Device VERY Hot

Hello. Fresh install of iOS 16, not restored from backup, when plugged into CarPlay, the device gets VERY hot. Has anyone else encountered this? Closed background apps, restarted, etc. Nick

Same issue here. iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 16.1. Gets very hot when driving for longer than 30 minutes whilst using Car Play with Apple Music and Waze, and the wireless charging pad stops charging. When I finish my journey the phone is so hot that the Torch icon on the Lock Screen is greyed out, and when I try to turn the torch on it tells me that the phone needs to cool down before I can use the torch..

A nightmare is an understatement. I had noticed my phone gets SUPER HOT ever since I updated to ios 16 (iPhone 12). Fashionably, I turned online to find out why and of course you'd find these answers saying it's normal. Guess what? My phone is now can't be turned on at all and apple service said there's no repair available for this problem and I would need to replace with a new unit, which of course not cheap! I'm super frustrated bcs Apple REFUSED to take responsibility on this matter and blamed me for overcharging my phone. What the heck?! It's your malware ios16 that caused it and you blamed and lied to us that it's normal. If you have updated to ios 16, please do not use apple carplay until apple fix this. Otherwise, you'll have a risk of losing your phone, with all of your data and you cannot do anything about it. 3rd party repair could probably save your phone but bear in mind Apple will only offer for replacement. No cost if you buy their warranty but if you don't... you know how it goes.

Yeah, i have this problem since first i got 16 iOS (iphone 13) and now i have 16.1 and still no resolve , i've contacted support and after a lot of ******** like change cable, cars, do a full wipe etc they said that the phone is fine and that the issue is from the car :)) it's amazing the ******** and lack of care , i've had Android devices for 12 years and didn't have this types of basic bugs... embarrassing

Just received my new IPhone 14 and now my phone gets hot and shuts off while running CarPlay WAZE/Maps and anything else. Doesn’t matter if wireless or plugged in and Happens on both cars. I did not have this issue with my IPhone 12 and I am super irritated. This is not a car issue.

First of all, iOS apps are meant to be running in the background and apps should only be closed if they are not responding. Second of all, Apple CarPlay Requires a lot on your phone. (Ex. GPS, apps, display, and it’s charging at the same time.) some older iPhones struggle with this, try to restart your phone or if your car and phone supports it. Try using the wireless version of Apple CarPlay

Usually I don't buy into this idea bcs I upgraded my ip 12 from ip SE 2016 which I had used for more than 4 years. even at the end of it, it was fine in terms of software but I had my battery replaced bcs it had bloated. Other than that, I still love and keep it. I take care of my stuff. the phone never had screen replaced whatsoever. But after ios16 and this accident happened with the ip12, I am super frustrated. Just when you thought your spending on high end phone is gonna be worthwhile, you would never think to spend 3/4 of that value to get it fixed 2 years later. This time, it's 100% the update. And for Apple to refuse to rectify this problem is just a shame. Forbes mentioned a lot of ip 14 users are facing this overheating issue and mind you, they already come with the ios16. I'm telling ya. It's not stable and it's damaging our phone silently.

No offense, that’s nonsense. Before iOS16, the processor was perfectly fine with any load CarPlay may have put on it. There was no heating issue at all.

Now something weird is going to make the processor go crazy. And it survived several point updates until today. Apple likely already knows about it but of cause won’t confirm anything. It‘s all about who‘ll pay for all the broken batterys this created and still does.

I am having the same issue ever since iOS 16 was installed on my phone. I have a 13 mini and cannot use CarPlay due to it. Overheating and stopping charging. The phone is even very hot to the touch. I am afraid it may catch on fire. How do you contact Apple to let them know of this potential hazard?

I have only had this issue since I updated to 16.4.1.

Before then anytime I used AirPlay the phone never heated this hot, and never was there a 20% drain on the battery after just being connected to airplay for 25 minutes.

Can any one from Apple provide some support.??

Ps, all background app refresh is shut off for all apps and cellular data is turned off for half of the apps on the phone,

Same issue iPhone 12 Pro Max that started happening after iOS 16 update. After about a minute it will heat up and get worryingly hot. Brightness does not go all the way up, flashlight disabled, and performance suffers. I've tried different vehicles, different cables (all MFI certified cables) and even an entirely different 12 pro max that Apple replaced on AppleCare and the new phone has the same issue, which is on iOS 16. This only happens when using wired CarPlay. Wireless CarPlay and the car's bluetooth does not give this same issue.
