Is there a way to remove or disable this feature? Every time I open the Music app, it's "determining gapless playback information" for several minutes, during which time I can't scroll through my long lists of artists and albums.

The reason we ask, is because macOS updates can include updates for built-in apps as well. You can find the steps for updating macOS listed below and in the following article.

No, that's not the issue. I am updated to the latest version of Monterey (12.6) and this issue has been going on for a year or more for me and a lot of other people.
Alas, I already did that, and Apple Support didn't know how to stop that "Gapless Playback" from running.
