Mac keyboard unable to type the at symbol and a few other symbols are not working either

Your keyboard settings art presumably in fact wrong. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources and make sure that you have ONLY ONE ITEM on that llst, and that the name of that item is "US".

The results you give could be for the input source called ¨Spanish¨. When you have more than one item on the list, it is easy to accidentally activate the wrong one.

Great that it works right! When you push the key with the world on it, what else is there besides US that you could have selected? Did you also have Spanish on your Input Source list when you went there to look at that?
