iCloud Eating WiFi data

I have a new MacBook Air . I get 500 Gb of data per month . In 2 weeks I have chewed up 870gb . I’m not downloading much at all. I turned my wifi off and hotspot to my phone and use about 1 to 2 go per day . If I switch the wifi on and do nothing I’m chewing up 50Gb of data in 1 hour . Anyone had this problem ?

On my data breakdown 98% of usage is iCloud . It is up to date but still chewing data

Hello Miccam,

We'd like to investigate and help with the data usage on the MacBook Air.

From what you report it seems like iCloud is the biggest user of data, which we can adjust settings to limit what you've noticed.

Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Apple ID. If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier, you don't need to click Apple ID.

Make sure to uncheck higher data usage features such as Photos or iCloud Drive.

We hope this helps.

Cheers.
