Apple ID not available

I recently switched from Android to iPhone and set it up using my work Apple ID. I want to switch to my personal Apple ID account to keep work and personal separate. When I try to do this I get the message that my Apple ID isn't available because the email is used by another Apple ID. How can I do this without needing to create an entirely new ID or email account?

Hello jenmadmadsen,

In order to do this, you'll want to sign out of the old and then sign in to the new. So long as both accounts are completely independent, you can do this. Here's how to sign out from Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac - Apple Support

  1. Go to Settings > [your name].
  2. Scroll down to the bottom.
  3. Tap Sign Out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off. Forgot your Apple ID password
  5. Turn on the data that you want to keep a copy of on your device.
  6. Tap Sign Out.
  7. Tap Sign Out again to confirm that you want to sign out of iCloud.

Then to sign back in, use the following steps:

Sign in with your Apple ID

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Sign in to your iPhone.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one.
  5. If you protect your account with two-factor authentication, enter the six-digit verification code.

If you forgot your Apple ID or password, see the Recover your Apple ID website.

Thanks!
