TV Purchases not showing in Library on Mac

Hi, my purchases are not hidden and my Mac is authorized and updated with the latest software, yet I can only download my purchases by searching. They are not showing in the Library of the TV app on my Mac. I have A LOT! of purchases. I have seen this question a lot too but no resolution. Any ideas? Thanks.

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

Thanks for getting back to us, emotionboy1978. It’s appreciated.

View your purchase history for the App Store, iTunes Store, and other Apple media services - Apple Support -- When you view your purchase history, are you seeing any of the items you purchased there? If you’re not, did you recently change your Apple ID email address or password?

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support -- If you are, see if restarting your Mac in safe mode causes those purchases to show up in the Apple TV app. Once your Mac is in safe mode, open the Apple TV app and see if the library shows your purchases. Whether or not it does, please restart your Mac normally to exit safe mode.

Please be aware that starting your Mac in safe mode takes a bit longer than a regular start. This paragraph explains why:

Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed.

If you were able to view your purchases while in safe mode, check again after a normal restart.

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.

Hey emotionboy1978,

If you want to download past purchases to your Mac, you can follow this guide: Download previous purchases in the Apple TV app on Mac

Check the Library tab, as shown here: Redownload TV shows and movies that you purchased - Apple Support

If you have tried this but run into an issue, look over the steps on this page, that most closely match the issue: If there's an issue when you redownload apps, movies, or other content from Apple - Apple Support

Take care.

  • Yes, when I view my purchase history I can see all my purchases.
  • No, I have not changed my Apple ID email address or password recently.
  • Tried starting Mac Mini in Safe Mode but did not see titles under Library.
  • Restarted again and still do not see titles under Library.
  • All I see is an Apple TV logo, below which I see Add to Your Library - Browse thousands of movies and TV Shows - Browse Watch Now
  • My Library of Movies and TV Shows is huge, in the thousands...

Yeah, no response from Apple Support over the past few months. Clearly, it is unacceptable. As a result, I’ve had little choice but to start abandoning my idea of “purchasing” digital content and am transitioning to streaming. The final nails in the coffin have been Apple’s poor way of handling this, and Sony choosing to make some already owned purchased material completely unavailable (see Canal and Sony news story) to their “owners”.

I’ve begun hiding some past purchases and resuming the same content (eg. a TV series) on streaming services instead, and am having to let go of the idea of things such as iTunes Extras since I am not purchasing anymore. And for any content that is only available by purchasing such as some new releases, I’m either waiting until I can stream it, going to the movie theater or just living without watching it- I’ll get by.
