Lightning Digital AV Adapter issue after iOS 16 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone SE to iOS 16 and noticed that my Lightning Digital AV Adapter is no longer functioning properly. It either displays a picture without sound or it gives me sound without picture. Went through all the possible checks but no luck. I've tried a total of 3 Lightning Digital AV Adapters and all behave the same.

Anyone else noticing this?

Please advise

Thanks

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Try connecting the adapter's lightning port to power. I had the same issue, used to work then stopped. Found an article suggesting proper connector connection order is necessary (https://www.technewstoday.com/lightning-digital-av-adapter-not-working/, includes other troubleshooting tips) but the only thing that mattered for me was adding a power cable to the lightning port.

I just got off the phone with an Apple tech complaining of the same issue. She said that the iOS I was using was old (iOS 16.1.1 that I downloaded about 3 weeks ago), and that I should download the newest version that was released a few days ago. I have not had the opportunity to download the new OS because I am unable to access Wifi where I am. However, I plugged in my iPad running iOS 15 to the adapter to the TV, and it worked flawlessly, both picture and volume…it’s not the adapter. It looks to be the older iOS 16.

I just now noticed this too myself a little bit ago… Well, I noticed it first about 2 to 3 weeks ago while in a hotel room while trying to watch a movie with a buddy of mine I work with and I just thought it was because of a slow Internet connection in our hotel room but just tonight I tried watching another movie with him in a different hotel with better wifi, from my iPad and had the same exact problem.

After doing a little bit of research, it sounds like it won’t do you any good to get with Apple on this because from what I gathered, due to the ongoing battle against piracy, there’s some new copyright or copyguard-type stuff going on with this new iOS update that makes it to where like if a specific streaming app doesn't want to allow screen sharing through that wired HDMI adapter, Apple had to honor it by incorporating something into the software that prevents mirroring what’s on your iPhone or iPad to your TV while using a particular app.

Some streaming apps don’t care but others do. Some of my streaming apps, I can screen-mirror just fine but some of my other ones, I can’t. They’ll play just fine from my phone or from my iPad but as soon as either device recognizes when the AV adapter is plugged in, all the sudden I start having terrible playback issues which consist of choppy picture with no audio, black screen with audio or a white screen that looks like it’s heavily pixelated, with audio.

Being that I spend a lot of time in hotels with my job, I’m probably just gonna have to invest in a cheap Google Chromecast so that I can cast whatever I want to watch from my phone to any TV, no cord necessary to make some paranoid corporate exec think I’m trying to steal copywrited material.

After a phone appointment with apple, they sent me to an apple certified Best Buy which was a complete waste of time. I took time off of work to drive there for absolutely nothing. The gentleman at Best Buy apologized that Apple scheduled me an appointment there for trouble with lightning digital AV adaptor since is obvious it’s not the adapter and that’s it the iOS update. There’s auto with Netflix and Pluto but not with Directv, peacock, or discovery+. Everything worked perfectly until I updated to IOS 16. I cancelled all three subscriptions since I can no longer use them due to this apple software malfunction.

My quite new Lightning Digital AV Adapter was working fine on my ten year old Samsung TV - until the most recent iOS update. I have reset and restored my iPhone 13 Pro and *still* have the same error. I agree that everything points to an issue with iOS 16.

I don't recommend following any suggestions to restore your phone unless you have a day to waste and feel like setting up all of your apps again. Apple, please fix this!

I own three A/V to Lightning Adaptors. Tried them all.

My Netflix, Disney+ & Apple TV+ Streaming Sites all work fine with the adaptor. Netflix works best by far.

My Prime, Hulu & Paramount+ Streaming App.’s no longer work.

Commercials &/or Previews/Trailers work but not movies or series episodes.

Zero Sound and the video is slowed / skips.

Running 16.2 on iPhone.

This to me proves the issue is the iPhone OS.

I hope Apple can fix this major issue someday…
