iPhone 14 Pro Battery Draining Fast

Anybody have a clue why the iPhone 14 pro battery is draining like a Samsung? My 13 pro and 13 pro max battery was so much better.. I’m lucky to get through the day with the new 14 pro battery!! What’s going on? Is this because of the new always on display?

I own iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Battery life on both are nothing short of amazing. For example it is now going on noon. My 14 Pro Max has been off its MafSafe Charger, since 7:30 AM this morning and my remaining battery is 98% at this very moment.

If your battery is draining faster than you expect, you need to see what is using the battery.

Go to Settings > Battery and wait for the categories to populate. You likely have something running in the background you need to stop running.

You can also Force Restart your iPhone (something you should do routinely anyway) by following the procedure in this support document --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Is it normal that the iPhone 14 Pro (not Max) loses about 1-2% of battery per hour just in standby mode without me really using it? Or 9% when making a call for 5-10 minutes?

For example, I leave the house at 7.30 in the morning with 100%, the iPhone then sits on my desk until 5 pm, by then I have maybe 85-80% left, even though it's just a few notifications coming in during the day like mail, WhatsApp, etc.

I have already turned off always-on-display and background app refresh. The iPhone is three weeks old, so indexing should be done.

Apple support ran a diagnostic and everything seems to be fine they said. The guy told me to use low power mode, but that can't be the solution...?

Is that kind of battery drain normal for the 14 Pro? I was used to much better runtime from my iPhone 12 Pro.

Thanks for your suggestions :)

It is normal if there is an app using a lot of energy. All energy use is by apps, so if your battery is losing energy faster than you think it should you need to identify the app or apps using that energy.

9% making a call is possible if you have a weak cellular signal.

If your phone is only using 15-20% of its energy over the course of a day that is outstanding battery life. There are users who have to charge their phone multiple times a day to stay about 20% charge.

100% agree. Same configuration (restored backup), same apps, same settings, same usage patterns and noticeably worse battery life. Initially upon switching to iPhone pro from a 13 Pro Max this was dramatic. So much so I returned the Pro. After updating to one of the iOS 16 point releases I did notice a hit to the iPhone 13 battery life as well but not to the same degree. It was fine after the initial upgrade to 16. Now I’m on a 14 Pro Max and the battery again sucks. Would love to be one of those that says it’s incredible but that’s not me. Hoping an update improves it.

I keep reading answers posted like this but when it isn’t your first or second or third …. iPhone, you can compare battery life across models. And the iPhone 14 pro battery is simply not as good as others.

I can also compare battery life across models, I have had iPhones for 15 years. By far, my iPhone 14 Pro has the best battery life of any iPhone I have ever owned, by a very large margin. I end the day above 70% charge. My previous XR would be below 20% at the end of the day. I don’t even bother to carry a battery pack when I go out anymore.

Of the more recent models, I've owned iPhone X, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max and now 14 Pro Max. My 14 Pro Max has the best battery life of them all. I use my phone all day, including at least an hour (sometimes more) of streaming Apple Music to my BT headphones and I can't remember a day since I've owned this phone on launch day, the battery has barely dipped below 80% by the end of the day. My phone goes off the charger in the morning at 7:30 AM and doesn't go back on the charger until I go to bed at night, typically around 11:30 PM.

omg yes of course. That does not however explain the large number of people who are using the new model in the exact same area(s) in the same ways with the same apps and the same settings who are seeing significantly worse battery life. The good experience of some users does not prove that others are not seeing legitimately poor battery life. Sheesh. I need to unsubscribe from this useless thread.

And I guess it doesn’t explain the large number of people who report that the iPhone 14 Pro has the best battery life of any iPhone they have ever owned.

What it does explain is that the phone itself is not the cause of the problem, because if it was EVERYONE with an iPhone 14 Pro would be complaining and there would be tens of thousands of posts about it as well as headlines in all of the tech media.

Battery energy is used by apps. Period. Nothing else uses energy except maintaining a cellular connection. If your phone is using energy at a higher rate than you think it should it is because there is an app or apps that are using energy, and the solution is to identify those apps.

The cellular connection WILL use energy, especially if your signal is very weak (1 bar), and it will use it even if you are not on the phone or using cellular data because your phone must stay in communication with the network so it knows how to route a call to your phone. But that’s a network problem, not a phone problem, and there is nothing you can do about it if you want to be able to receive calls.

If listening to an hour of music is heavy usage to you then you’re not able to tell us if the battery life is indeed wonderful. When is say draining battery and heating device it’s on real heavy usage like listening to music while registering a workout in an app and sending messages. Or having my gps along with music or podcast.

These are the kind of use where you can tell if the battery is on point or not.

And from what I’ve tested recently it seems to be but certain apps which I don’t manage to identify are draining the battery.

A solution that’s been working for me recently is closing all your apps when the battery is draining and start again using your phone like normal. You might finish to identify which app is the rogue one. For me I didn’t but since I did that once the battery is behaving extremely well.

You're right. But by large numbers, do you mean the 7 measly pages on this thread? Out of the Millions upon Millions upon Millions of users who now own iPhone 14 Pro models, one would think the largest and most posted to forum in the world about all things Apple iPhone would be flooded if there were "large numbers" of users having battery life issues. The number of posters here, in relation to the number of users out there are totally statistically insignificantly small.

That doesn't mean some aren't having an issue. Sure there are some. There have been users complaining about battery life on every model iPhone I can recall. But that doesn't mean Apple has an issue on their hands. An issue would be pretty much universal and effect way more than the few people complaining here.

And no, you can not say all the users are using the same apps and the same settings in the exact same way on their iPhones as proof of anything. There are so many variables in play here. Distance from a cell tower, being one of the most important. Corrupt data being brought over from a backup is another. Apps running in the background to amount of time used on each app is another variable, which you cannot measure for every other user.

This is not to minimize anyone's personal experience. You just can't suggest a "large number of people" are having the same experience you or anyone else is having.

Nov 25, 2022 5:26 PM in response to elyse81

Given different model phones have different radios, different processors and different displays it's not a straight comparison.

For example your iPhone 14 may be operating on a radio band an earlier iPhone wasn't even capable of using, and 5G bands for example do take more radio power than LTE ones.

Then there's the fact that many third party apps are not yet completely compatible with iOS 16.
