Music Library not syncing to phone (iPhone 14 Max Pro / iOS 16.0.1)

Playlists and library changes made on my iMac/iPad aren’t syncing to my phone. Since everything syncs perfectly between the iMac and iPad, it seems it’s specifically a problem with the phone.

As an added wrinkle, if I make a playlist on my phone, it’ll sync to my other devices, but not the other way around.

I’m assuming this is just some new iOS or new phone glitch, and I’ll have to wait for another update, but if anyone has any fixes I’d love to hear them! I’ve already tried switching music syncing off and on on my phone and logging out of iCloud and back in.

Hey cbunag,

Just to verify, are you subscribed to the Apple Music service? If so, make sure that Sync Library is enabled on all your devices. This should resolve the issue. Here’s how you can do this:

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. Go to Settings > Music.
2. Turn on Sync Library. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on Sync Library.
3. If Sync Library is updating or turned off, you'll see a message at the top of the Library tab in the Apple Music app.

On your Mac

1. Open the Apple Music app.
2. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Music > Preferences.
3. Go to the General tab and select Sync Library to turn it on. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on Sync Library.
4. Click OK.
