App-specific password

I don’t see anywhere how you specify the app you are creating the app-specific password for.. just the name you choose.,

sm I missing something? How does the app associate that password with itself?

You don't specify an App, you create the password and then use it to log in to your Apple ID / iCloud account through whatever App it is you want to associate it with.

The App-specific password exists and is accepted by Apple through whatever App that uses it unless you revoke it.
