Trouble closing apps on iPad

I'm having trouble closing apps on my iPad (8th generation), which is about a year and a half old. I double click the home button and sweep up with my finger, but nothing happens until I press down really hard. I clean the screen daily with a lens/electronic wipe. There is no protector on the screen. What could be going on and how do I fix it? Thanks for your help.

Thanks again … I made an appointment, but then my dear spouse suggested I try restarting. I did and the apps are closing easily now … go figure. 😊 Problem solved and appointment cancelled.

Given your description, you might be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. If repair is required, you’ll be in the best possible location to explore your available options.
