Apple error 49244

Anybody know the solve for this puzzle?

I tried making a SuperDuper bootable backup on a less than 1 yr. old MacBook Pro M1 and received this reply (see below for partial reply).

The Author of SuperDuper suggested a First Aid on the source (my MacBook Pro) and to try again. After trying that and getting the "OK" for First Aid, the issue still exists.

His finger is pointing to Apple for a solution so here I am. Apple?...Community?...Anyone?...Anyone?

It seems with one of the macOS 12.x Monterey updates broke the ability to make bootable clones on M1/M2 Apple Silicon Macs a while back according to several posts on these forums. According to the developer of Carbon Copy Cloner, making bootable clones is now just a "best effort" due to all the new security features Apple keeps adding/modifying. Bootable clones still seem to work on Intel Macs, but it seems it is no longer working for Apple Silicon Macs. If the developer of SuperDuper is pointing fingers at Apple, then don't expect anything to change as Apple does not care about bootable clones. Here is information from the CCC developer about the issue (he also posted another mention elsewhere, but I cannot find it):

As for First Aid make sure to click "Show Details" even if the First Aid summary says "Ok" because First Aid lies. If you see any unfixed errors listed in the report, then you need to try running First Aid from Internet Recovery Mode, otherwise you will need to erase the Volume Group and reinstall macOS & restore from a backup.

Thanks HWTech.

Your 8 rating should be a 9.

Thanks also for the FirstAid tip. I didn't realize that.

I will check out the link and if I happen to garner more info, I'll post it here.

I guess it's time to get Tim Cook on the horn and let him know what's going on with Apples lack of empathy for people who have had hard drives fail on the road and need instant information that the Time Machine software cannot deliver unless you have 2 days for the backup to restore.
