Why did my iPhone 14 screen go black?

This is the only suggestion that got mine to turn on (plugging it into my Mac). Phone was at 63%. I still don't know what happened or how to keep it from happening again other than don't leave it on the charge overnight? I hope Apple releases something helpful soon.

Absolutely. Aside from this forum I don't know how else to get the problem to their attention. I chatted with a specialist who convinced me that despite the phone presenting this issue there is nothing wrong w the phone and if it happens again to just go to the Genius Bar. Based on what I've read here it sounds like they don't know either. If we all complain enough maybe something, eventually. But yeah, it feels like a $1k prototype. Since turning off AOD, I haven't had the BSOD, but I shouldn't have to turn off a feature that sold me the phone just to use the device period.

The “solution” Apple Support gave me was to regularly close all apps and NOT charge my phone overnight. She “guaranteed” this prevent the issue from recurring. That’s what I’ve been doing for several weeks now and haven’t had the issue since. It’s a hassle to ensure you charge up before bed or as soon as you get up, so I wouldn’t consider it a win. Very disappointed with Apple

Press the Siri button and ask to turn up the brightness. You’ll get a slider on the screen. Doesn’t keep it from happening again, but it works and is quick fix.

I fixed the problem by charging it an extra 30 minutes and then holding the buttons for the fix.

I experienced the same condition this am. I changed charging cables; still nothing. my bride tried the ‘hard/forced’ restart, to no avail. I tried the same procedure, as advocated via Google … I was relieved to see the logo magically appear, FINALLY! Should (not) have to start the day w/ this type of failure. I am hopeful this doesn’t become chronic!

Mine the setting for sunshine-dark was all the way down. After 2hrs. In a black room I was able to change it. Get in a dark dark room and see if it has given a command instruction just been told to go down all the way. Good luck.

Yes. I tried & tried again to sort this bug out. Best thing to do is take it down to an apple shop & they will fix it in a flash! Saves you brain drain frustration time & they fixed in minutes

I had this same problem with my iPhone 14 tonight. It was showing anything when i was touching the screen, I tried to press both volume and side lock buttons together but I could listen only vibration which is actually making calls to emergencies. I was worried if it was making calls to emergency while I was pressing side buttons but no screen showing. Then I grab my partner's phone to call my self then my phone's screen turned on.

This happened to me overseas and completely went into panic mode. Find a dark shadow corner away from sunlight or a lighted area or turn off all the lights. you can still see the screen tilt the phone a bit and you can go to settings and turn up brightness up. My wife managed to do it.

Tried all solutions and none worked, still have black screen of death. Tomorrow I have to waste my time and take the problem to the Apple Store.

I didn’t understand the volume up and down and all around stuff so I just powered off and back on, and my original pic was back on my Home Screen.

Try connecting to your computer and do a firmware update. That solved my problem.

Just happened to me.... I had to repeat that process 4 or 5 times before it finally worked.
