Why did my iPhone 14 screen go black?

My new iPhone 14pro max has a black screen this morning following its regular overnight charge. I have tried the reset and it is now plugged in via a cord hoping this will work. Anyone else had this issue?

FYI, 16.0.2 did NOT fix the problem on my 14 Pro as hoped. I put it back on my wireless charger last night for the first time since my overnight BSOD a week ago. When I woke up this morning, it was clear the phone had rebooted (passcode required; different home screen widgets showing). I opened the battery app and found it had been unresponsive for 3 hours overnight, then re-booted itself. My first BSOD occurrence while charging overnight was similar but never rebooted. This is really annoying...

Black Screen of Death

BTW, there's a 300+ post on Reddit discussing the issue. It seems to be highly correlated with charging, especially overnight charging, both wired and wireless. There are a couple of cases where this happened while not charging, but those seem rare. I'm surprised it hasn't appeared in the press yet. The Click Vol Up, Click Vol Down, Hold Sleep button until logo appears (up to a minute or two!) fix seems to revive the phone in all cases I've seen...

My phone was not charging when I got the black screen. It had about 70% charge. I could tell the phone was still alive because I plugged it in and it made the blipping sound that it does when you plug it in. I hit a few buttons randomly, not having read the thread about which buttons to hit, then just left it for about 45 minutes. The screen just suddenly came alive.

Unfortunately with the new iPhone 14 they don’t tell you when receiving it or in the box, that when force restarting your iPhone, like the iPhone 12 and 13 it was press and hold the volume up button and then the power button at the same time. And it magically went back on. With the 14, what you have to do is different. Quickly press and hold the power on and volume up button at the same time, then quickly press the power on and volume down switch. Found this on the support.Apple.com webpage. My phone showed the Apple logo and and here I am 🥰

Issue unresolved on my iPhone 14 Pro Max bought on 16 Dec 2022 with RM6,299 on overheating which cause the display to be blank black but sounds is working for long period of time. They are not able to address the root cause of my phone and say it is fine after "tested" I have no idea how they tested probably using their own basic scanner software or just leave it there pretend to diagnose in 5 DAYS. At the end, told me device is okay no need to repair. I have attach a video to them where the issue can be replicated even during charging and using normal apps NOT TESTING UNDER FRESH RESTORE WITHOUT ANY APPS.

My phone is still under the 1 warranty and this issue can happen after only 6 MONTHS of minimal usage. Also, I have found few scratch on my phone stainless steel chassis after I came to claim my phone. They did not take good care of my phone. No thank you or apologize for anything.

Other please beware of this bug before purchasing this iPhone. I really take good care of this phone like a baby but this device is so sensitive.

I would sell this phone away instead of bringing in for diagnosis if I have lost faith in App

UPDATE

Hey guys,

I’ve brought in my phone with the same issues. A brand new phone which had the black screen of death when I FIRST set it up.

@Apple didn’t do **** all. When I sent my phone away to get it fixed with them, I received it back and same thing happened AGAIN immediately.

i didn’t buy my phone from the Apple Store, so I sent it back to my phone provider and they again, sent it away to fix. Fortunately, this time receiving it back from them my phone hasn’t had the issue at all and it’s been 2 months.

Yes, it’s a real pain. It’s happened 5 times now. The first two times I did a factory reset with a back up phone then spent 45 minutes at T-Mobile since the garbage eSIM is the only option. It has happened three times this week I placed the screen face down on my night stand after pressing snooze then the screen came back. I wish I just got another 13 pro max after gifting my sister with my first one.
