Why did my iPhone 14 screen go black?

The same thing just happened to me so you have to press the up volume button once and press the volume button once and hold the power button and the apple logo would appear in a minute or so but I thought I broke my phone when I woke up

thank you all! this same thing happened to me twice in the past few days. the first time, It turned back on once I plugged into my truck; and then today I googled and found this solution that worked. why hasn't apple fixed this bug? wth.

Black screen has happened twice to me after updating latest update. It’s horrible can’t see anything even when trying to restart phone. I wish Apple just stop these bs updates that are too often and messing up a $1,000 phone. Just happened again few minutes ago .

My screen went black. Panic at 3am. I kept on doing suggest recovery technique - quickly push up volume, down volume and hold rt on/off for a 40-60seconds. Finally worked after 2hours. No explanation. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again. Trying to contact support was a non event. Thoughts??

This problem still persists, I faced same issue in my iPhone 14 Pro Max, This was really very difficult to handle, I had charged my phone full night , I saw the screen was black early morning, I spent couple of hour to fix it then it started working.I am not sure the same problem may happen again, This is not expected from the company like Apple.

Here it is, 16 March, 2024, and this still has not been fixed by Apple. My iPhone 14 Pro Max is the first iP in 10+ years that has gone black while still on after recharging. Thanks for the volume up/down tip. Did not know the phone could be turn off without the SOS appearing. Guess there’s some good that came from this alarming development.

I also have an iPhone 14 Por Max that decides to black out also. Sometimes it's in the middle of the day and sometimes when I take it off the charger in the morning as it did today. The phone is still on, and Siri is active. I've activated her with the power button and asked her to turn the brightness all the way up. She said she did it, but it doesn't get brighter.

With all that said, I've found the easiest way to correct the problem.

Activate Siri with the power button and tell her to turn the phone OFF. She will verify your request then turn it off. Wait about 5 seconds then hold the power button to turn your phone back on. All will be back to normal.

I had this same problem with my iPhone 14 tonight. It was showing anything when i was touching the screen, I tried to press both volume and side lock buttons together but I could listen only vibration which is actually making calls to emergencies. I was worried if it was making calls to emergency while I was pressing side buttons but no screen showing. Then I grab my partner's phone to call my self then my phone's screen turned on.

Omgggg THANKKK YOUUUUU SO MUCH!!!!! I was literally just going crazy until I grabbed my old phone connected to Wi-Fi in my house and did a Google search on why my phone turned black, well the screen and I’m so fortunate to have came across your answer because it worked! This just happened to me! Thank goodness for the Apple community. This was a replacement phone from VZW, my original was perfect (till is got crushed). Thanks for the post. This worked, my phone is back to normal.

Same with me, it’s annoying. I try to turn off the phone it takes some minutes, or someone is calling me in the morning the phone vibrates and the screen is totally black. When I’m able to turn it on I have the missed call. I hope they fix it soon. On the top of that I always had iPhone and they never froze, this one is other ways, it’s always freezing almost unbelievable

This happened to me overseas and completely went into panic mode. Find a dark shadow corner away from sunlight or a lighted area or turn off all the lights. you can still see the screen tilt the phone a bit and you can go to settings and turn up brightness up. My wife managed to do it.

This happened to me this morning too, alarm was going off but screen wasn’t working to turn it off. I tried to plug it in and stuff but that didn’t work, I also didn't have anything to look up how to reset and forgot how to. I pulled out my MacBook to search it and thought maybe syncing them would help and my screen came back on!

It just happened to me but i am not able to perform the Volume up and Down and then hold the power button because after few secnds the Emergency goes off ( Flashing and Sounds) so basically i am stuck... not sure what to do. I hear my e-mails whats app, Daily alarm goes off in the background so the phone works but i can not see nothing... now what? Is an Iphone 14 Pro Max with 1TB memory ... i dont want to loose it, can anyone help with sugestions?

It's 2024, and it's still an issue. I actually thought my phone was dead even though it was charged. It wasn't until I tried using Siri, and she said I had to unlock my phone, that I realized it was working—just a black screen. Anyways, the "Best Reply" was the win. Let's not have people panicking @apple geez.
