Can’t download purchased song

Hi! First, I already tried checking for hidden purchases and checking for available downloads—neither worked. I’ve also tried deleting the album and re-downloading and that also didn’t work, on either my iPhone or MacBook.

Several months ago I purchased a single, before the album was announced or available to pre-order. Later, when the album was announced, I pre-ordered it. When the album was released, all of it downloaded just fine, EXCEPT the song I bought as a single. In the iTunes Store it says “Purchased” on the right side where the rest of the tracks say “Play.” When I go to my purchased items, the song is not listed with the others on the album, even though I bought the whole album.

How do I get the missing song to download/appear in my library?

We're glad you had the chance to verify the song isn't hidden and the song shows with Play next to it. From the description you provided and with the song having been purchased as a single, it'll likely show as a separate album in Music on your devices. To locate the song on your iPhone, follow the steps below.

Open the Music App.
Tap Library.
Tap Albums.
You can tap the letter the single begins with on the right or scroll through the albums to locate the single.

You can also tap Search, and type the name of the single to see if it appears. You can also use Search in Music on your Mac as well.

If the single was included in the album as well, it should be available in the album. When you viewed the album in your purchase history, did the missing song show in the album? If so, and with having already verified that you have no hidden purchases, the next step would be to contact Apple. You can find their contact details via the links below. This will give them the opportunity to look in to this issue further.

Thanks for responding! Yes, I do have the single as its own album in my music library. What I am trying to do is get the song on the album—I want the full album, start to end, that I paid for. I don’t understand why it is seemingly impossible to download this song just because I already have a different version. Why can’t I have both in my music library if I paid for both?
