Garage Band (and other apps) Input Monitoring in iOS 16 does NOT work.

Since updating to iOS 16 Garage Band (and Tonebridge, and Amplitude) no longer has the option to monitor input. I can no longer hear what I play in real time. I can still record input and tune a connected guitar, but the option to turn on monitoring is no longer available.

I'm using both an Apogee Jam (original) and a Jam 96k. Same issue on both. Firmware is up to date.

Is anyone able to activate Garage Band's Input Monitoring using iOS 16? If so, what guitar interface equipment are you using?

Same here. Using iRig 1, lightning adapter. Amplitude works sometimes but Audio is all static and when playing Apple Music songs with trainer, sounds like its underwater and detuned. Tonebridge effects dont work at all, but can hear Preview Sound with no issue. The only thing that does work now is input on Garageband but always need to reselect Monitor input when switching Amps

Cheers, Ralph. Interesting that a Jam+ solved the problem for your iPad, yet your legacy Jam worked fine for your iPhone - it’s my legacy Jam and iPhone that are causing me grief! I’m in the UK, so I’ll see what I can find secondhand, albeit I’m loathe to spec a 100+ quid on something that might not work! So frustrating

Using GarageBand on my iPad Pro or iPhone 13 (both iOS 16.3.1), I’ve tried a Line 6 Sonicport and a Behringer UM2 via lightning cable interface (both of which worked perfectly prior to iOS 16), and…no dice. No monitoring, no instrument input. HELP!!!

Hi Mgoetz33, I had to give in and splurge £100 on a secondhand Apogee Jam+ in the end. It solved the problem straightaway, but nevertheless a frustrating scenario. A warning, though: the input is way louder than my previous interface, so it’s difficult to get the levels to match on songs I was halfway through. I also have to readjust the levels on every take, as the Jam+ doesn’t seem to save them

Glad you got it working Stevie_hendrix. Interesting that Apogee Jam+ works, but Line6 & Behringer do not…. I’m holding out for iOS patch for now, and will ask L6 & B for any advice.

The cynic in me says Apple is putting downward pressure on its GarageBand community. The optimist in me says they simply flubbed execution on the iOS upgrade. Time will tell…

Eureka!

I just installed the iOS 16.1 update on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the monitoring feature is back!

Hope it works for others.

Thank you. In my case, I’m using iRig with Tonebridge mostly.

Same here. On 16.1, latest version of Tonebridge, the sound is extremely noisy/crackly.

Yes, unfortunately Apple still cannot get this right. I’m surprised these apps don’t issue a formal notification.

It’s to do w the iPhone. None of the amp apps work with my phone. AmpliTube, GarageBand, AmpKit. None of them work. It’s all static when you try and play thru them.

I'm on IOS 16.3 with an IPAD 9 and original JAM - IPAD still doesn't find the JAM as an audio input.

I can't get tone bridge to record in GarageBand on my iMac I hear it through the app but when I record through GarageBand it does nothing
