iPhone XS Max

When I turn my phone off and restart it, after I turn it back on the cellular service looses connection. All my bars disappear and I get no service. If I take my sim tray out of my phone and put it back in then my service comes back. I’ve already reset network settings. I’ve hard reset my phone. This iPhone is a used phone and has no warranty. I’m wondering if it may just be the sim tray. Can someone help me?

We, just users like you, cannot diagnose that kind of issue remotely, sorry.

Yes, it might be a SIM tray (or a SIM card) problem: should be the latter, contact your cellular carrier and ask for a spare SIM card.

If it still doesn't work, I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
