Unknown part

I have an iPhone 12 Pro, with a blurred camera and video ( rear camera only )

SlowMo, Panoramic and Face ID work fine.

I have not had any damage or repairs done, however I suddenly got the blurred camera and the “ unknown part “ message after trying to reboot.

I know there is a similar issue with the Pro Max, and Apple

support tell me to send it to their service department for the usual very expensive repair, without even quoting a cost, which we all know is extortionate.

has anyone

found a fix for this problem please

So what I did to resolve the problem is this

  1. I removed the bumper case with sliding lense cover.
  2. I performed a hard restart - Vol up then down, then hold power button.
  3. On reboot, the exclamation mark was highlighted saying “unknown part”
  4. I opened the camera settings and unchecked the HDR.
  5. I opened the camera app and switched from front to rear view quickly 7 or 8 times.
  6. I performed another hard restart
  7. I opened the camera app
  8. Blurring gone !
  9. It appears that the lense cover may have caused the issue, but very strange as to why Apple decided that there was an unknown part error !

No, it isn't "extortionate", did you get an estimate by going here: iPhone Service & Repair - Apple Support

I checked and it showed $199 USB. You also have this option: Self Service Repair - Apple support

They cannot give you a firm service estimate until someone looks at your iPhone, there may be other damage that will not allow them to just replace the camera in which case they will do an out of warranty replacement of your phone if you approve it.
