I have Mac Book Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) and macOS Monterey. Finder doesn't show my external ExFat disc. I can only see the disc in Disc Utility, which shows the name of the disc on light grey. When I try to mount it, I get "Could not mount (com.apple.DiskManagement.dis enter error 49244.)".
I have to keep the disc Windows compatible. Can anyone help me?

Hopefully this drive still reads on your Windows computer. Get another drive and save the data. Then try reformatting on the Mac and check that you can used the drive on either platform, then copy the intended data back to it.

Have you tried running First Aid from Disk Utility?
Was the drive originally formatted on your Mac or elsewhere?
Do you have backups for all of the data currently on the drive?

What format would you recommend?
exFAT should be what you need to use the same drive with both platforms. In principle it shouldn't matter whether you do the format on Mac or Windows, but perhaps it does. Or there is really a problem with that drive. How old is it? They do fail sometimes. Occasionally even new drives go bad.

Actually I have two. One has the materials and it's age I don't know. The other one is empty and brand new. Both were formatted to ExFat on Windows and both had the exact same problem. So I guess Mac just can't read them... ?
I reformatted the empty drive with Mac. Now I need to find a Windows computer to check the drive and do the transfer. But you helped a lot. Thank you!
