My MacBook Air is saying I need to update software to sync new iPhone SE

I recently got a new iPhone ES. Now my MacBook Air is telling me that I need to update software on the laptop to sync the phone. Is this real or some kind of scam? I don't want to do anything wrong. Thanks.

If you are seeing the message as indicated in the article above, it is a legitimate update for your computer, that allows communication between the computer and iDevice.
