iTunes PC version problem

The current Win 10 version is 12.12.5.8, which is what it shows in iTunes > About after I open it from my Win 10 desktop. The target there under Properties is "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe." But when I go to that folder location, under iTunes.exe Properties > Details, it shows as 12.12.4.1. How can that be? I discovered the discrepancy after updating it on a cue from the utility PatchMyPC. Thanks,

Windows, Windows 10

That does seem odd.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Where the problem probably lies: one of my recent attempts to update iTunes was done via the MS store and that's completely mucked up the works. I now can't update at all from elsewhere, because it says all users have to uninstall the MS version first. When I try, it gives me an 0x80070780 Error. At the time it first happened, I uninstalled iTunes the normal way, but that didn't solve it. Now I've manually deleted everything left of iTunes from the main drive, but one iTunes.exe file with 0 bytes still exists that's associated with MS. See the screenshots. I've run sfc /scannow and it found errors, but that didn't clear this one. Do you think that trying to reinstall the MS store version is the best way to go now? I suppose if it works, then I could try uninstalling it and getting the standalone version again.
